The Patton High School Bands will host The Western Carolina University Jazz Ensemble at 6 p.m. March 11 in the school's auditorium.
Pavel Wlosok, assistant professor of jazz at Western Carolina University, said, "This year's tour will provide a great opportunity for the public to hear the only true American art form called JAZZ. Our big band performs a wide variety of jazz literature using standard instrumentation of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets and a full rhythm section."
The Jazz Ensemble has performed with such great artists as Conrad Herwing, Gary Smulyan, Bobby Watson, John Riley, Ed Soph, Chad Eby and Chris Cheek.
Also performing will be the local jazz bands from Patton High School, Freedom High School and Table Rock Middle School. Patton High Bands Director Chad Higdon said this is an opportunity for parents, students and the community to hear the school jazz bands perform, as well as the university's ensemble.
Light refreshments will be available from the PHS Band Boosters.
