Williams: How to make school exciting

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The classroom teachers of the future will get tired of the computer, realize the health dangers of its use and will use it only on occasion.
The students in the classroom will run in place while getting the assignment by the teacher introducing the lesson of the day. Then they will practice what they have heard orally. Educators will have realized that learning on the computer is too sedentary and students learn better on their feet; they will decide that the use of the computer is not healthy, causing headaches and neck and eye problems along with other maladies.
The teacher will be limited to the use of the computer room once a day for an hour and no computers will be allowed in the classroom. Neither will any electronic equipment be allowed in the classroom and the use of television will be limited. To encourage activity, the teacher will use oral group reports, discussion, drama, demonstrations, speeches, dialogues, projects and other active methods to teach. The students will spend much of their time on their feet and reading and speaking aloud.
Politicians and educators will abandon the No Child Left Behind idea and will have a new one: Students Testing Every Wing or STEW. The emphasis will not be on standardized testing, but on developing the student to his or her full potential in the areas of his or her interest. Learning will be highly motivated. Students will fly into success.
In the earlier grades the students are too immature and inexperienced to choose their courses. The early years will include a variety of required subjects, including reading, writing and arithmetic, to determine interest and ability.
During the first year of high school, students will be required to take, among other courses, American history. After the first year of high school, students will be guided by teachers and principals to take such elective courses as advanced math, art, literature, drama, speech, history, television, computers, creationism, scientific theories, sports, auto mechanics, cooking, health matters, comparative religions, the Bible as literature and advanced technology.
All students will be motivated and stay in school because they will be working hard to learn in the field of their choice. This will reduce the number of dropouts, because they will be captivated by their passion and will also be preparing to make money for a livelihood. Going to school will become exciting again.
