M. Brian Bauer, MD, FACS, has recently joined the Medical Staff of Blue Ridge HealthCare's Grace and Valdese Hospitals. His practice will be Blue Ridge Urology, located in the new Medical Office Building next to Valdese Hospital, 730 Malcolm Boulevard, Suite 100.
As a urologist, Dr. Bauer specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary system in men and women and disorders of the male reproductive system. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in urology at Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.
Urology is the field of medicine that focuses on issues affecting the urinary tracts of males and females and on the reproductive system of males. In both sexes, the urinary and reproductive tracts are close together, and disorders of one often affect the other. The organs covered by urology include the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and the male reproductive organs.
Urologists are also involved in the assessment and treatment of incontinence.
