There are some people who deserve recognition for their hard work on the Joyce Nelson case, starting with assistant district attorneys Frank Webster and David Swanson. Their dedication and approach to this case was at such a professional level that every citizen should be proud. I know I am proud of them.
I want to thank the jury whose job is a difficult one. I know they struggled with some very perplexing issues in there, but, they took their time and provided a verdict they felt represented the case and for that I am grateful. I know when that door closes and it's just the 12 of you in there, things may get complicated. You worked them out and I am grateful. I was present for the entire trial and each and every one of you gave 100 percent of your attention. You jurors should all be proud of your service.
Now let's continue to pray for Martin Lawing and his family and let's pray for the Nelson family. Neither asked for this crisis, but they live with the outcome in ways none of us fully understand and never will.
