In our state we have seen unemployment rise rapidly, jobs lost and job creation deterred. With this and many other events and situations negatively affecting our state's citizens, our congressman, Patrick McHenry, is enjoying and utilizing the power of his congressional position.
McHenry has recently accepted an automatic pay raise of $4,700. As of right now, McHenry is the only congressman from North Carolina who has not supported the repealing of these pay raises.
Last year, McHenry introduced only one bill, which was to honor Jimmy Johnson of NASCAR.
McHenry announced the award of a $7,505 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant to the Linville Volunteer Fire Department in Avery County. In addition to this grant, a total of $1,743,884 was awarded in 26 grants to 24 fire departments in the N.C. 10th Congressional District. Sounds like a good idea coming from McHenry, right? Well, McHenry voted against those grants, including the one he presented to the Linville Volunteer Fire Department.
McHenry recently introduced HR 4705, a bill that would replace the face of former U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant with that of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan on the $50 bill. McHenry doesn't seem to understand that Americans are worried about job creation. McHenry is attempting to create a legacy for himself by enacting HR 4705 while he has left the hard work of job growth, ingenuity and responsibility up to his constituents.
These are just some of the many examples of how Congressman Patrick McHenry is out of touch with the American people and especially those of the 10th Congressional District. The American people are hungering for true conservatism and common-sense solutions that will restore and stabilize our economy, create and keep jobs and inspire the American people to create and conjure up ideas for great inventions as we have done throughout the history of our country. That common-sense conservative is Vance Patterson.
Patterson is currently the owner of seven successful small businesses. He is a true conservative seeking to improve our political system and rid of government corruption and waste. Vance wants to east the tax burden on all Americans by lowering and cutting taxes across the board. He also advocates passing term limits for "professional politicians" such as McHenry who have no real-world experience. Patterson believes in a small, less-intrusive government that will protect the rights that all Americans happily utilize every day, not hinder or take them away.
In a time where government seems to be gaining in size every moment, we are forced to look inside of ourselves for the answer. Well, Vance is that same kind of American — looking to improve what our out-of-control government is destroying. When you vote on May 4, vote for common sense, vote for patriotism, vote for Vance Patterson for U.S. Congress.
