1. Spring is in the air, so put a spring your step with a carnival. New Dimensions Charter School hosts its spring carnival from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Old Courthouse Square.
2. Get up and move around from 7 to 9 p.m. today at a public Zumba party sponsored by Western Piedmont Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society. The event at the Collett Street rec center will raise funds for the Good Samaritan Clinic in Morganton. All ages are welcome and a minimum donation of $5 per person is requested.
3. Learn how to protect yourself with a free women’s self-defense seminar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Wei Shi Bei Guan, 131 W. Union St. Space is limited so RSVP to Daniel Walker at 438-0188.
4. Hone your dobro and guitar skills at a workshop hosted by Rob Ickes and Jim Hurst from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jailhouse Gallery. The two classes will join at the end of the workshop for instruction on accompaniment, backing up a vocalist, rhythm techniques and more. All levels of ability welcome. Cost is $80. 5. Get a head start on Easter celebrations with North Morganton United Methodist Church’s presentation of the Easter cantata “Who Do You Say I Am” by Lloyd Larson. The adult choir presents the cantata at 11 a.m. Sunday. The cantata includes monologues presented by characters in the Bible including John, Peter, Mary, Pontius Pilate, Joseph of Arimathea and Mary Magdalene. Call the church office at 437-3852.
