Case Farms expects to create 100 new jobs in 2012 and it will add a second shift of workers to the Morganton plant on Rand Street.
The expansion project will allow for increased production, said Bobby Barragan, director of human resources for Case Farms. The added shift means there will be a day and night shift at the facility.
“Case Farms has been a staple in the Morganton business community for more than 20 years,” said Charles Rigdon, vice president and general manager of the Morganton facility. “We are dedicated to investing in the Morganton community by supplying jobs and producing a high quality product.”
Burke County Board of Commissioners Chairman Wayne Abele said, “Case Farms, one of Burke county’s largest employers, not only provides jobs, they also offer a lot of support to charitable organizations in our community.”
City of Morganton Mayor Mel Cohen said, “By reinvesting in our town and maximizing their facilities, Case Farms is taking considerable steps to remain a constant part of the Morganton business community.”
A $500,000 building reuse and restoration grant from the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center will help Case Farms’ expansion, which will affect Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Lincoln, McDowell and Rutherford counties.
A Case Farms facility in Cleveland County had expanded to produce more chicken feed to meet demand, and Burke Development Inc. worked with Cleveland on the project in Burke. BDI assisted Case Farms in obtaining the grant.
Further information regarding the expansion project in Morganton is not available at this time, Barragan said.
“We are proud to help our existing industries in their efforts to grow and expand their local operations,” BDI President Scott Darnell said.
