A Democrat and Republican filed Thursday for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional seat.
Cecil Bothwell (D) of Asheville currently serves on the Asheville City Council.
Kenny West (R) of Hayesville is a businessman.
They join three others who have filed for the seat. Incumbent Rep. Heath Shuler (D) is not seeking re-election.
On Wednesday, Steve Starnes of Hickory added his name to the list of candidates for the Burke County Board of Commissioners. He is the third Democratic candidate for the seat.
The filing period runs until noon Feb. 29.
