Officials will work with residents on nuisance dogs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I have recently read two separate letters to the editor regarding two separate nuisance dog complaints. Burke County now has an animal control ordinance that addresses issues such as this, effective March 1, 2010, and can be viewed online. Having gone through a similar situation, my advice would be to document your complaints with video, audio and dates/times, etc. Make your complaint to animal control or to the sheriff's department if after hours. Be prepared to go to court to back up your complaint — do not make a complaint if you are not willing to back it up. My situation took some time to resolve, but thanks to Major Banks Hinceman and Captain John Hoyle of the sheriff's department and Sergeant Townsend of animal control and each of their respective staffs, I got some relief. They are good, professional people to work with on this. Just be willing to do your part.
