News Herald right for taking down comments

»  Comments | Post a Comment

I would like to applaud the News Herald for doing the best they could to control the content on their Facebook page in regards to an article about Gov. Bev Perdue not seeking reelection.

I was absolutely appalled to see the number of people who posted derogatory and sexist language to describe Gov. Perdue as well as some of their fellow posters. It is an embarrassment that people could not conduct themselves properly on a public website and I shudder to think how they conduct themselves in the real world.

After alerting the News Herald about the offending content they quickly took it down and made it clear that such language would not be tolerated, which is something that I, and many others, appreciated.

Hateful language should have no place in our political discourse. We can disagree without being disagreeable.

To those who were reduced to name calling instead of having a civilized discussion as to what this means for North Carolina, all you managed to do was cheapen your opinion and make all of those who share it look bad.
