Jade Crump scored a career-high 13 points as the Table Rock Middle girls basketball team beat East Burke 42-31 at home on Monday.

Amy Rhoney supplied 12 points while Ariyana Williams added 11 for the Lady Falcons (3-0).

East held an 8-5 advantage following one period before the Lady Falcons took a narrow 19-17 lead at the half. Table Rock then outscored the Lady Raiders 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 10-point lead.

The Falcons’ Laney Hodges had three blocked shots, while Reece Davis led EB with eight points.

“We played a much better game than the first two, as the girls played with a lot of heart,” said Raider coach Kelly Shook. “We did not have a lot of turnovers, and we fought hard up until the buzzer rang.”

EB (1-3, 0-3 FAC) hosts East McDowell on Jan. 5, while Table Rock travels to rival Walter R. Johnson the same day.

 

Boys basketball

West McDowell 49, Liberty 45 - Daxton Bostian led the Knights with 18 points, Austin Davis added 14 points and Peyton Mull chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds as Liberty dropped a close game Monday in Marion.

“We lost a heartbreaker,” said Liberty coach David Waters. “Entering the fourth quarter, our team had three starters with four fouls. We were down 11 points with two minutes left and cut it down to three points.

 “For the second game in a row, these guys showed incredible heart. They fought until the last second of the game.”

Liberty (1-2 FAC) returns to the hardwood Jan. 9 at Table Rock.

 

Wrestling    

East McDowell 54, Heritage 36 - Despite Adam Street (pin), Noah Stephens (pin) and Luke Nelson (major decision) claiming three of the opening four matches, the Eagles stumbled in their FAC home opener on Monday.

Heritage’s Mark Hudgins (140) won by forfeit, Timmy Abee (160) by pinfall and Logan Cline claimed his second career match by pinfall at the 189 class. Heritage (0-2 FAC) will host West McDowell on Jan. 5.

East Burke 54, Liberty 37 - Liberty (1-2 FAC) gained triumphs from Jackson McKinney (112), Gerald Basnett (119), Wesley Cook (135), Chris Calhoun (140), Hunter Perham (152), Logan Reece (215) and Evan Diab (Hvy) in a defeat at East Burke on Dec. 8.

West McDowell 72, Liberty 24 - Wesley Cook (135), Chris Calhoun (140), Logan Reece (215) and Evan Diab (Hvy) each won matches for Liberty in a home loss Monday.
