The Morganton junior American Legion baseball team slipped to 8-10 in its first season of operation after losing both ends of a Monday doubleheader at Bunker Hill. Morganton dropped the opener 10-4 and the second game 4-3.
Morganton’s Jack Reid finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored in the first game, while Bryce Moses went 1 for 2 with a walk and a run and Wyatt Fleming 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Fleming started and took the loss, and Jonathan Morgan finished the five-inning game out from the mound by tossing 1 1/3 perfect innings with one strikeout.
In the nightcap, Moses was 2 for 2 with a double and a run, Chandler Grindstaff was 1 for 1 and Christian Fulenwider was 1 for 2 with a run. Moses took the loss after firing three innings of three-hit ball with four Ks and five walks. Hayden Caraway also pitched an inning, fanning one and allowing two hits but no runs.
Last Friday, Morganton split on the road with R-S Central, winning 5-1 and losing 2-0.
Morganton hosted South Caldwell’s “B” squad late Tuesday and travels to nearby East Burke on Friday.
