The East Burke junior legion team gained its second overall win in its first season, splitting with Bunker Hill on Wednesday.
The host Bears won the opening game 3-2, and the visiting Cavs won the nightcap 6-3.
Elijah Reese led East Burke (2-11) in the second game with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate with three RBI’s off a double and homerun.
Tucker Cranford added two hits (double, single) with an RBI. Matt Whisnant (double) and Luke Phelps (single) also each managed a hit for EB.
Jacob Lail, on the mound for all five innings, threw three strikeouts while allowing four hits and three walks.
In the opening game, decided by a sixth-inning RBI double from Bunker Hill’s Caleb Smith, Cranford (2 singles) and Lail (single, double) led EB at the plate.
Additional East Burke hits were courtesy of singles from Reese and Hunter Jeffries and a double from Whisnant.
Whisnant sat down three Bunker Hill batters by strikeout, while holding the Bears (8-3) to five hits.
East Burke hosts the Morganton Junior Legion baseball team at 5 p.m. today at East Burke High School.
