The Salem Tigers improved to 4-0 in the mighty mites and midget divisions while the pee-wee team improved to 3-1 after Saturday’s wins over the East Burke Royals at George Hildebrand Elementary School.

Pee wee: Salem 14, East Burke 0 - Salem’s Bryce Charlet and Tanner Simmer each scored on the ground from 16 yards to help their Tigers pull-out with a victory.

Moses, on Salem’s first drive, looked to start the momentum with a lengthy run inside the East Burke 5 but a sack by Austin Sellars on fourth down forced the turnover on downs.

Carter Crump and Aasin Mckinnely-Lor led the ground attack for the Royals (0-3) but had six turnovers including two lost fumbles. One of East Burke’s fumbles was recovered by Salem’s Chandler Stele.

Mighty mites: Salem 12, East Burke 6 (OT) - Weston Fleming scored the winning touchdown for Salem, on a seven-yard run, in extra periods.

East Burke got the first score, four minutes into the final period, off a three-yard run by Dalton Reed. The Tigers responded quickly as Zane Phillips returned the kickoff 40 yards to tie it up at six and force overtime.

East Burke received the first possession in overtime as the Royals turned the ball over on downs leading to the winning drive capped by Fleming’s winning score.

Midgets: Salem 36, East Burke 6 - Salem’s Cory Duckworth scored three rushing touchdowns for the Tigers en-route to a 30-point win over the Royals.

The Royals struck first as Luke Whisnant received a 75-yard pass from Dillon Wade but missed on a two-point conversion for a 6-0 lead.

Duckworth scored his first touchdown, on the following drive, from 70 yards and Jordan McCurry punched it in on the two-point conversion for a 8-6 lead.

Duckworth (5, 26), Trent Riddle (1), and Weston Keys (24) kept the score in Salem’s favor with their scoring runs. Duckworth and Landon Mays were successful in two-point conversion attempts.

Riddle was also credited for an interception on defense in the third quarter.
