East Burke Middle captured 11 pinfalls to cruise past Liberty, 66-27, in a key Foothills Athletic Conference wrestling road contest on Thursday. The Raiders swept the Knights this season and take over sole possession of second place in the conference.

Host Liberty (6-3 FAC) tallied one pin, one decision and three forfeits in the county matchup. The Knights enjoyed an early 21-18 advantage after capturing four of the first seven matches. Trailing 6-0, seven-grader Peyton Hightower (114 pounds) led 6-1 after two period then soared to an 11-6 decision against the Raiders’ Noah Gilbert.

Liberty’s Hunter Reid (121) gave the Knights their first lead with a second-period pinfall (2:58) against EB’s Keegan Ruark.

East Burke (7-2 FAC) responded with two pins from unbeaten grapplers Justin Franklin (127) and Dillon Childers (132) before the Knights claimed back-to-back forfeits from Cody Nelson (137) and Wesley Cook (142) for the three-point lead.

EBMS then reeled off five pins in a row as Trevor Gilbert (147), Dylan Bodde (154), London Page (162), Jakob Prestwood (173) and Eli Duckworth (191) powered the Raiders to a comfortable 48-21 advantage.

Liberty’s Jason Basnett (217) grabbed a forfeit for the Knights’ final win before EBMS ended with three straight victories. Heavyweight Michael Stillwell avenged his only loss of the season with a second-period pin (1:15) of Liberty’s Evan Diab. The Raiders’ Tanner Gilbert (85) snagged a pin with four seconds remaining in the opening period against Calvin Robinson while Jacob McMonagle (95) concluded the match with a third-period pinfall versus Gabe Church.

East Burke hosts Table Rock on Thursday, while Liberty visits West McDowell.
