Patton High distance runner Noah Green ran a personal record on Friday night in Chapel Hill and qualified for the NCHSAA state indoor track championships in the process.
Running in the Eastern High School Challenge Indoor Track Meet, Green won his 3200 meters heat with a time of 10:20.57 to beat his old personal best by nearly 10 seconds. Green's time also easily got him under the 1A/2A/3A state qualifying time of 10:24.
“Noah took control of the race after the first 600 meters,” said Patton coach Rob Colley. “After that, it was just him and the clock. He even lapped three runners.”
Green’s performance netted him 21st place in the overall competition, which was won by Sam Roberson (9:26.41) of Raleigh’s Broughton High. East Burke’s Kailey Robinson finished 15th in the girls pole vault with a jump of eight feet even. Both Patton and EB will be competing at the Western North Carolina Polar Bear Championships at Polk County High on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
