The indoor track season moved outdoors Wednesday for Polk County High’s Western North Carolina Polar Bear championships, and several Patton athletes were at their best.

Senior Sarah Millner established school records while taking runner-up honors in both the 55-meter hurdles (9.81) and 300-meter dash (46.78). Her time in the hurdles barely missed a regional qualifying mark of 9.74.

For the boys, sophomore Devin Cook broke the previous school record for the 300 meters by almost a second (38.31) en route to third place. He also finished third in the 55-meter hurdles (6.92), while senior teammate David Stroup took fifth in the same race.

Rounding out the Panther contingent were a pair of personal bests, as freshman Blake Holden took sixth in the 1600 meters (5:08.01) and sophomore Jesse Bunton was sixth in the shot put (35’3”).
